Scientists say there are more than 90 ways to cheat… Revised November 14, 2006
A Scientific study has identified 91 ways of keeping an adulterous (cheating) affair secret from the spouse. According to the scientists the same signs that make a marriage look rock-solid can also be the signs that mean the marriage is rocky. Psychologists discovered that one of the most effective ways a man can keep his wife from suspecting that he is cheating is simply to avoid showing extra interest in her and their future together. And a woman should think twice about her man if he talks often about spending quality time with her as this can be a telling sign of cheating.
The researchers say a man should also be weary of his wife if she suddenly starts to demand more sex, seems more attentive than usual, and wears her wedding ring more than she did before. And they also say husbands should pay special attention because they have discovered that women are far better at deception than men.
The researchers looked at cheating tactics involved in what they call “human-mate poaching”. The study which focused on how people set out to have an affair and what they do to cover up cheating, is the first of its kind.
The psychologists found that men and women have 51 different strategies for “poaching” or cheating on a mate and 91 different ways of covering up the affair. The most effective method that a man uses to cover up his extramarital affair, is to talk with his wife about their future together as a family.
But for a cheating wife, the most effective way is to keep up a veneer of normalcy, being careful not to change her daily routine, clothes or beauty regime in any way.
A Florida University professor and other psychologists looked at the ways that people entice others into illicit relationships and then cover them up. They arrived at their findings after questioning many cheating partners and reviewing earlier research into relationships and lying. Then they asked the cheating wives and husbands which techniques worked best and rated each for its effectiveness.
A spokesman for the group of scientists said “the goal was to identify what men and women do to disguise the fact that they are trying to attract a mate-poaching or cheating relationship.
The result was a list of 91 distinct acts of mate-poaching deception”.
The top three techniques for cheating women involved maintaining everyday activities. It appears that a woman’s mate-poaching enticements can be best disguised by the woman’s not letting her daily life become noticeably altered.
The report says a woman can also deceive her man by giving him more affection and sex.
